Coloniàl Restaurant: Corte Doglio’s gastronomic garden
The Mexican restaurant Coloniàl showcases all the flavours and colours of South-Central American cuisine in an authentic tropical paradise in the heart of Cagliari.
Mexican cuisine is a triumph of flavours, scents, spices and colours. Awarded a spot on the exclusive representative list of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010, it stands out for the great variety of dishes, for their richness in minerals and proteins but also their high social, cultural and historical value. Enclosed within its flavours, are the character and history of its people, their creativity, rituality, sense of belonging and collective identity.
The recipes that we can enjoy today are the result of the contaminations and cultural influences that occurred in the sixteenth century when the Conquistadors of Spanish origin brought their customs and culinary habits to Mexico with a bit of colour from the French and Caribbean traditions. Also important to note is the close relationship with neighbouring Texas from which the Tex-Mex gastronomic culture derives.
Let the aromas and intense taste of Mexican cuisine capture you at the Coloniàl Restaurant, surrounded by the evocative and elegant setting of Corte Doglio, the splendid internal courtyard of Palazzo Doglio. This 5-star hotel is the perfect place for those who are looking for a holiday of comfort, relaxation and accessible luxury. At Coloniàl you can breathe the vibrant energy of South-Central America and experience the best of its typical cuisine in the scenic and curated setting of a colonial-style oasis surrounded by a tropical paradise.
The restaurant displays its authentic charm at first glance: refinement, elegance and style are the keywords for a truly warm and exciting Mexican experience in the South of Sardinia.
The decor and furnishings evoke the atmosphere of the colonial style typical of South and Central America. This was born when entire European families moved to the New Continent during Spanish colonisation, maintaining a strong link with their original land.
The settlers attempted to recreate their countries’ architectural styles and to furnish their homes in similar taste and decor. The colonial style starts to take shape when they began to commission the construction of furniture to the local artisans who designed their pieces according to the European style but including details that mirrored the local taste.
The colonial furnishing style links the tradition and tones of settlers’ country of origin and those of the colonised lands. In the specific, the architecture and colours of the Spanish colonial style recall the ones typical of Mediterranean buildings, with thick walls and arches featuring wood, terracotta and wrought iron. There is no shortage of ceiling beams, majestic dining tables in solid wood and chairs with leather seats and solid legs. The main colours are white or cream with wooden trim.
The menu at the Coloniàl is full of exceptional authentic flavours
The goal of the Coloniàl’s team is to offer dishes that reveal the true flavours, scents and colours of Latin America with a special nod to Mexico in their aperitifs and tacos.
They put no limits on experimenting and daring, looking with openness and curiosity at other cuisines of the world. Lunch or dinner are transformed into an all-encompassing sensory and gastronomic unique experience, a surprising journey overseas from the comfort of the restaurant.
The menu is varied, with dishes of excellent quality that will enchant your taste buds: starting with snacks such as guacamole served with meat, chilli served with nachos and fried jalapeno with cream cheese. The Mexican experience continues with tasty dishes typical of the street food culture such as chicken tacos and octopus tacos as well as tuna ceviche and beef tiradito.
To finish, a nod to the delicious desserts: churros with dark chocolate and dulce de leche, the Colonial Rocher (a rock of cocoa boasting 5 different textures) and the pineapple crumble (including mint and tequila with fiordilatte ice cream).
