Doglio Modern Vintage Market, the exhibition-market of collectibles and modern antiques in Palazzo Doglio
Modern Vintage Market arrives in Palazzo Doglio, the event linked to the vintage world accompanied by vinyl music and exceptional protagonists that will take place on Sunday 22nd October.
Collectables, modern antiques, vintage: terms inextricably linked to the world of art – in all its facets – very often used synonymously. Even if they’re not.
Modern antiques, in fact, concern all those pieces of furniture or artistic objects made during the twentieth century, between the end of the Second World War and the magical 60s. The design of these objects, which gradually becomes more sober and elegant, is made with mixed techniques. While remaining handcrafted elements, the modern antiques reflect the historical times in which they were made, leaving room for important industrial details. They have a timeless charm, able to combine the past with the most contemporary style.
Vintage, on the other hand, refers to that particular taste for old-fashioned vintage objects made with high-quality materials. Recently, the category of “new vintage” has also been introduced to classify all those products made 25 or 30 years ago. In any case, the retro look of vintage furniture or furnishings makes them unique and inimitable pieces. Furnishing elements that can tell a story or make you dream about it.
It is not surprising, therefore, that in more recent times the “Vintage Markets” – i.e. all those places where it is possible to admire and buy modern and vintage products – have had a wide echo. Urged above all by the awareness that choosing antique pieces and collecting them, displaying them and giving them credit for their authenticity, also means contributing significantly to the reduction of waste from a circular economy perspective.
It is undeniable that the reuse of materials and the return of a new life to objects thanks to their recovery, reduces environmental impacts and consolidates increasingly sustainable collective choices. Modern antiques and vintage, therefore, are synonymous with “environment”. And timeless taste and aesthetics.
Doglio Modern Vintage Market by May Musk: avant-garde artists in the heart of Cagliari
The magical courtyard of Palazzo Doglio opens to an exhibition-market entirely dedicated to the world of collectibles and modern antiques. The Doglio Modern Vintage Market will be an experience of the senses, a magical encounter with the artistic sensibility of a changing Sardinia.
May Musk, the mind and curator of the event, is a collective of artists who have been managing a multipurpose space in the Sardinian capital since 2016. A reality in which the arts, generically understood, come together without confusing each other. The association, coordinated by Massimiliano Murru with the collaboration of Ignazio Loi and Daniela Porcu, is now a real incubator of talents and social experiences.
In this sense, the Palazzo Doglio exhibition will attempt to hold together rare pieces, made by Swedish designers, and iconic Italian masterpieces of the last century. In a mixture that takes into account tastes, refinement and transversality of artistic expression. Told through different objects, stories and crafts.
The event, particularly focused on the themes of environmental sustainability, will focus on the professions of yesteryear. All those crafts of the past that could be adapted in a contemporary key.
Among the guests, Francesca Murru, an expert restorer specializing in canvases, panels, wooden sculptures and valuable fabrics, will offer an unmissable lectio on mending. Transporting all lovers of the recovery of ancient fabrics to a past made of iconic clothing, embellished with unique handcrafted details.
The Maestrodascia Federico Coni, an eclectic designer and craftsman who has embraced the values of Eco-Design, will amaze you with his anthropo-zoomorphic furnishing accessories made entirely of recycled wood. Inspired by the playful concept, the artist will focus on hybrid objects that represent nature, in a complete fusion of the raw material with the environment that surrounds it.
Finally, the restorer Ganpaolo Cossu will show the public of Palazzo Doglio how the enhancement of the simplest materials has become an integral part of his craft.
Sensory experiences, live painting and stellar menus: the varied offer of the Doglio Modern Vintage Market
Not only ancient arts and crafts but also sensory experiences that can immerse viewers in the world of the image. Vinyl music will accompany the extraordinary illustrations of Giorgia Atzeni, the famous graphic designer and illustrator from Cagliari who, among her various successes, includes a cover of Andersen magazine. His “paper things” and his drawings, also published by well-known children’s publishing houses, will enrich the courtyard of Palazzo Doglio with creativity. Preparing it for the spectacular live painting by Alessandro Macciocco.
In fact, from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., the street artist returned to Sardinia after fifteen years spent between England, Holland and Hungary, and will create a work on canvas to celebrate the Doglio Modern Vintage Market. Macciocco, which has made its creativity a banner for the fight against plastic in defence of the ecosystem, will give artistic voice to the commitment to sustainability on which the exhibition is hinged.
Finally, to delight the most curious palates, starting at 12.00 the renowned Executive Chef of the Osteria del Forte in Palazzo Doglio, Alessandro Cocco, will present the “Grandma’s Off the Menu”. A menu entirely designed to savour vintage taste even in the kitchen. The taste of tradition will take the palate on a trip down memory lane. And over time.
Music, colours, art, tradition and retro atmosphere: the Doglio Modern Vintage Market promises to become the navel of the world of collectors, enthusiasts and curious.
