Musica a Corte: a tribute to Ludwig Van Beethoven
Musica a Corte is the music festival organized by Palazzo Doglio that dedicates two appointments to the 250 anniversary of the birth of Ludwig Van Beethoven.
2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Ludwig Van Beethoven’s birth, and Palazzo Doglio will celebrate the German composer with Maestro Francesco Libetta and the Duo Perfetto protagonists of the festival Musica a Corte.
A pianist, composer, and conductor, Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn on the 16th of December, 1770. He is considered one of the greatest exponents of Viennese classicism and one of the greatest composers of all time. Despite the deafness that struck him before he turned thirty, Beethoven continued to compose, direct and play, leaving for posterity a unique musical production of expressive strength and ability to evoke emotions.
Considered amongst the greatest geniuses of music, the varied and complex work of the great German artist influenced the musical language of the nineteenth century, opening the way to the musicians of the second Romanticism, including Brahms and Wagner.
Beethoven, while respecting the rules, forms, and models of classicism, is considered a figure of transition since his more mature works also contain romantic elements. His music celebrates the triumph of heroism, brotherhood among people, and joy and is still today a reference for many composers.
Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn in a conversation with Beethoven confided to him: “You are very talented and you will acquire even more, enormously more. You have an inexhaustible abundance of inspiration, you have thoughts that no one has yet had, you will never sacrifice your thought to a tyrannical norm, but you will sacrifice the norms to your imaginations: you have given me the impression of being a man with many heads, many hearts, and many souls”.
Throughout his life, Beethoven has written works in many musical genres and for a wide variety of instrument combinations. In the rich catalog of particularly important Beethoven compositions are chamber music, symphonic, and piano works. Furthermore, sacred compositions such as the Missa Solemns, and theatrical ones, such as Fidelio, should not be forgotten.
