Tuttestorie Cagliari 2022: the international literature festival for young people
Discovering Tuttestorie, one of the best events aimed at children’s literature in Italy. The festival is scheduled to be held in Cagliari and other municipalities of Sardinia from 5 to 12 October 2022.
Cagliari is home to one of the most important and engaging events dedicated to children’s literature, an international festival that over the years has gathered hundreds of visitors and oversea guests. Tuttestorie, designed by the homonymous children’s bookstore, with words and ideas by Bruno Tognolini, invades with joy the EXMA Cultural Centre of the Sardinian capital and fills it with the creative force of authors, illustrators, children’s literature experts, atelierists and scientific writers that investigate along with the visitors the themes proposed annually.
The talented Tutterstorie’s team specialises in children’s literature and is accustomed to the daily work of inspiring younger readers. Since 2006 they have felt the need to create a bridge between adult and child literature, often too distant from each other. Along with Bruno Tognolini, they created the children’s program of the Gavoi Festival, which run for two years.
A clear question emerged from that experience: Why not organise a festival entirely dedicated to children’s literature in the city of Cagliari?
This is how the EXMA Cultural Centre has become the home of Tuttestorie: in the Piazza Blablà writers meet to explore a different common theme every year along with illustrators, artists, children of all ages, parents, school groups and guests from all over the world.
The first theme of the festival was the Questions followed by Disobedience, the Beasts, the Change, the Night, Secrets, the Incomprehensible, the House, the Surprise, the Extra, Courage, Bonds, Desires, the Earth, the Body, the Journey and, in 2022, Time.
During the exciting days of the event, the stories in the books are intertwined with the lives of adults and children and are contaminated by theatre, dance, art, new technologies and cinema.
The expansion also becomes territorial: from the heart of Cagliari, over the years, the festival has seen the involvement of many other municipalities from north to south Sardinia thanks to the fundamental contribution of local teachers and librarians who take advantage of the festivities to celebrate children’s literature in their area.
Tuttestorie has been recognised with prestigious awards: the First Report on the advancement of reading in Italy, edited by the Forum del Libro Association on behalf of the Department for Information and Publishing of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, has included it among the 18 (out of 1200) most important literary events and book fairs, along with the International Children’s Book Fair in Bologna.
It was also nominated Best Initiative for the Advancement of Reading for Children and Teenagers by the Centro per il Libro of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities. The festival received the Medal of the President of the Republic, won the National Prize “City of the Book” 2010 with the Municipality of Cagliari and, most recently, has been awarded the quality mark assigned to the most important European festivals, EFFE LABEL.
