Ninety years after its first appearance, the most macabre, original and funny family in America is back in the limelight, more in step with the times than ever.
The stage of Teatro Doglio, an architectural jewel in the heart of Cagliari, had the pleasure of hosting the Addams Family on Sunday 19th February for the only date in Sardinia of the theatrical show. The performance by the Compagnia della Corona tells of a grown-up Wednesday who and fell in love with Lucas, a boy from an ordinary, typical and “normal” American family.
The idea of getting married worries her a lot: what reaction will her mother have to the news? Idea! Better to confide everything to his father making sure he keeps it secret.
An invitation to dinner at the Addams’s house and the traditional “Game” will allow the two families to get to know each other better, confessing unspeakable secrets in a convulsive evening full of misunderstandings and uncomfortable truths that will change everyone’s lives.
Being Carnival Sunday, Teatro Doglio was pleased to welcome guests dressed in the Addams Family theme. These wonderful costumes have really been popular this year giving life to a real “Addams mania”.
In fact, from an analysis of the main online platforms, it emerged how the Addams have catalysed the interest of users: Wednesday’s costume is the most desired for 2023, followed by that of her mom’s Morticia.
The same success was lent to the fancy dress costumes: the first choice was Wednesday Addams, inspired by the Netflix series by Tim Burton that has been able to transform the girl into a gothic style icon able to influence trends and fashion.
Every accessory or garment she wears immediately becomes a “must-have” for thousands of people around the world. In this regard, two of the many shoes worn by Wednesday in the first season of the series have received great consensus: the Slider Platform Sneaker by Naked Wolfe and the iconic Monolith lace-up by Prada in leather.
On TikTok the “Wednesday mania” exploded with 22 billion views among girls: there are those who want to copy her gothic style characterised by black dresses, white collars, Dr. Martens shoes and white t-shirts, all seasoned with a “sad” but absolutely trendy look.
The dance choreographed by the protagonist Jenna Ortega went viral on the social network and her see-through and translucent vintage dress by Alaïa catches the eye.
VIPs and ordinary people alike tried their hand at Wednesday’s robotic dance during the white party of the Nevermore Academy.
Wednesday Addams popularity has also conquered the world of cosplayers: there are now millions of online views by people of all ages of people who take inspiration from the unmistakable character to make their own cosplay with collegiate style suits, wigs and black that wins over all other colours.
The overwhelming success of the TV series dedicated to the Addams Family
The Addams Family is back in vogue thanks to the overwhelming international success of the first season of the Netflix series “Wednesday” directed by Tim Burton, one of the most viewed ever on the streaming platform so much so that the second season is already being prepared.
It is a modern mystery comedy with forays into the supernatural that has as its protagonist one of the most interesting characters of the family, Wednesday. A restless teenager who tries to master her psychic faculties meets new friends and rivals at Nevermore Academy, investigates a series of murders and also tries to solve the mystery that involved her parents 25 years earlier.
The series has rightfully entered the Olympus of Netflix records: in the first 28 days it obtained 1.237 billion hours viewed beating even “Stranger Things”.
